West Brom fail to manage Jayson Molumby’s injury as issue worsens in double blow vs Sheffield Wednesday
Ryan Mason has revealed that he does not think Jayson Molumby will be able to feature against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Molumby enjoyed a strong international break for Ireland, but picked up an injury in the latter stages of the camp.
The midfielder then aggravated the issue in his appearance off the bench as West Brom beat Preston North End 2-1, Mason confirmed.
The 26-year-old had been ever-present for the Baggies’ opening 10 fixtures, but was missing from the squad for losses against Watford and Ipswich Town.
West Brom are heavy favourites to beat Sheffield Wednesday, but they will have to win without Molumby for the first time this season.

Ryan Mason confirms likely second absence vs Sheffield Wednesday
Alex Mowatt and Ousmane Diakite featured in the midfield against Ipswich, with the latter putting in a strong performance despite West Brom‘s loss.
It was just the third time the midfielder had started a Championship game this season, but he was everywhere for Mason‘s team.
And the former Tottenham interim boss will hope to see Diakite replicate that performance on Saturday, with the Mali youth international certain to start.
Toby Collyer also suffered an injury against Preston, and Mason has all but confirmed that, in addition to Molumby, the Manchester United loanee will be missing on Saturday.

“I don’t think they’re going to be back,” the Baggies boss was quoted as saying by Express and Star on Tuesday.
“Obviously, Jayson had his injury with Ireland and then made it worse in our game against Preston.”
Crunch period approaches for West Brom
It has been a harsh fall back down to Earth for West Brom, after what had been such a promising opening period under Mason.
Three losses in the last four games have seen the Baggies struggle to score, and often lose that defensive solidity seen early in the season.
| West Brom – next five | Date |
| Sheffield Wednesday (H) | 1 Nov |
| Charlton (A) | 4 Nov |
| Oxford United (H) | 8 Nov |
| Coventry City (A) | 22 Nov |
| Birmingham (H) | 26 Nov |
The next three games will provide a chance to climb up the table; however, with clashes against Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, and Oxford United all providing chances to amass points.
Charlton represent the most difficult proposition of the three, but Mason will be confident that his side possesses the quality to take three points at The Valley.
