‘Shame on you’ – Dawn Astle slams disgraceful announcement ahead of West Brom clash vs Coventry City

Dawn Astle MBE has slammed Coventry City over the prices quoted for West Brom supporters for tickets ahead of next month’s Championship clash.

West Brom make the short trip to CBS Arena on 22 November for a 12:30pm kickoff, with the game set to be available to watch on Sky Sports.

Albion have been given an allocation of 2,815 for the contest, with each of those tickets expected to be sold.

West Brom fans have hit out at the steep ticket prices, with Astle – the daughter of Albion legend Jeff – the latest to make her thoughts on the matter clear.

West Brom fans charged £45 for Coventry tickets

West Brom fans have had little to cheer on their travels this season, having only won away from The Hawthorns once since August.

Promotion from the Championship will be tough for West Brom on the basis of recent results, but Ryan Mason has a squad strong enough to turn things around.

The upcoming trip to Coventry will be the toughest test of the season on paper, given Frank Lampard’s side are currently top of the division.

For adult Albion fans wanting to attend the match, they will have to fork out £45 for a ticket. Those aged 65 or older will have to pay £40, meanwhile, as will 18-21 year olds.

Under-18 tickets have been priced at £35, with the details being announced by West Brom via their official website this week.

In response to the ticket announcement, Astle took to X to post: “Following your football team is not cheap. Tickets, parking, petrol, food. My grandson has just turned 10 years old.

“He loves watching West Brom, it’s his club, and over the past couple of years, now he’s not so little, we’ve been taking him with us to lots of away games.

“He loves seeing new grounds and the whole away day experience really, win, lose or draw, and truth be told he probably enjoys away games better than home games now.

“His ticket to Watford was £5, his ticket for Charlton will also be £5. Other away grounds have been between about £11 – £16 for him.

“Coventry City, I’ve just noticed that you are charging a 10 year old £35 for our game in a couple of weeks’ time! Really? Surely this can’t be right? If it is right, my god, this reeks of pure greed.”

Astle signed off the post with the words “shame on you”, along with an angry face emoji that nicely sums up the mood of every West Brom fan.

Birmingham fans also furious at Coventry ticket prices

West Brom host Sheffield Wednesday this weekend and then have two more fixtures to navigate before the trip to Coventry.

And it is fair to say West Brom fans will not be alone in hitting out at Coventry for the frankly scandalous ticket prices they are charging.

Indeed, a Birmingham City fan replied to Astle’s tweet stating the outcry was similar when his side played at the CBS Arena recently.

It takes something big to unite fans of West Brom and Birmingham, and it seems this is one such issue.

The obvious answer would be to boycott the match, but there is no reason why it should ever get to that point.

Those in charge of ticket pricing at Coventry need to take a long, hard look at themselves.
