Ex-West Brom player in contention to become next Wolves boss after Vitor Pereira sack

Wolves could turn to former West Brom player Derek McInnes after sacking manager Vitor Pereira, with an early list of candidates emerging.

Pereira was sacked by Wolves on Sunday, a day after his side’s 3-0 loss at Wolves left them winless in 10 to start the Premier League season.

Despite only recently being offered a new contract, Pereira has been a man under pressure at Wolves for a number of weeks now with his side bottom of the table.

Albion fans will take delight in seeing their neighbours’ struggles this season, although West Brom’s start to the season has also been underwhelming.

Ryan Mason’s West Brom job has been called into question by some, but there are no suggestions his position is under any threat right now.

That is not the case for Pereira, though, and it may well be that a former Albion player in McInnes gets the nod.

Early frontrunners emerge for Wolves job

McInnes made 88 appearances for West Brom across a three-year spell at The Hawthorns in his playing days, before moving to Dundee United in 2003.

The Scotsman is now better known as a manager, and his stock could not be any higher than it is right now.

McInnes has Hearts nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with the Rangers and Scotland duopoly set to come to an end this season.

It is not at all surprising, then, that McInnes is in the frame to replace Pereira at Molineux as they begin their search for a new boss.

As per Bet Victor, McInnes is the joint-fifth favourite for the job as of Sunday afternoon, level with Frank Lampard and Kevin Muscat.

Brendan Rodgers, out of work after recently leaving Celtic, is the bookies’ current favourite for the position, followed by Erik ten Tag and Sergio Conceicao and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Derek McInnes holds special West Brom claim to fame

West Brom were the first permanent English club McInnes represented in his career – and one of only two alongside Millwall – but his first season was ravaged by injury.

In his second campaign at The Hawthorns, McInnes skippered West Brom to the Premier League and it was then he wrote his name in Baggies folklore – albeit for an unwanted reason.

The current favourites for the Wolves manager’s job

McInnes became the first West Brom player to be sent off in the Premier League when being given his marching orders against Manchester United in August 2002.

He was part of the side then relegated the following season and that brought an end to his time with Albion.

McInnes has been linked with the West Brom job himself in recent times, but it may well be that he ends up at a Premier League club instead.
