Ryan Mason opens himself up to complete ridicule after what he’s admitted about West Brom shocker

Ryan Mason hasn’t helped himself with the West Brom draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

Mason is under pressure of the sack at West Brom after a largely poor start to life as head coach at The Hawthorns.

West Brom lost against Ipswich Town last week, but against a potential promotion contender, that wasn’t necessarily a surprise.

The issue is that West Brom’s goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday just showed how poor they really are against a side destined for relegation.

The Black Country faithful booed at full-time and are likely to be all the more frustrated after hearing what Mason has got to say.

Ryan Mason ‘disappointed’ by West Brom showing vs Sheffield Wednesday

West Brom fans are already turning on Mason, but that’s not too shocking, considering Albion are sitting 11th in the Championship.

The Englishman’s remit has to be in and around the play-offs, while getting the best out of star names like Josh Maja, Aune Heggebo, Isaac Price and Mikey Johnston.

Struggles are on show and were certainly evident against Sheffield Wednesday as the Baggies failed to make their chances count.

Mason spoke out after the full-time whistle in B71 and shared his belief that his side effectively got worse the longer the match went on.

He said: “Of course it’s disappointing. I think the opening goal is so important. For the first 20 minutes, we pushed and made some opportunities, but they didn’t fall our way.

The longer the game went on at 0-0, we felt some anxiety kick in, and we rushed our decisions. We need to work on that and stay disciplined.

There are no easy games in this league, it’s disappointing, really disappointing. At home, we need to win games of football, so it’s a massive disappointment.

If he had said ‘disappointing’ or ‘disappointment’ more often, it is unclear whether anyone would get the picture…

To suggest his side panicked and struggled as time went on is far from a good sign for a relatively new head coach in his first permanent managerial role.

Mason needs to be more critical of his West Brom players

The nice guy act may provide a unified dressing room, but when results are poor, it only causes annoyance due to being overly friendly.

Mason would be better off calling out his players and saying precisely what is on his mind rather than a dull answer that feels neither here nor there.

Every West Brom fan knows he is “disappointed”, but suggesting that the players simply need to be more “disciplined” is bizarre.

The players need to be better and consistently demonstrate the quality that everyone knows they possess if Mason is to turn things around.
