Ex-Wolves boss makes perfect sense – This could be West Brom’s next manager amid Ryan Mason sack developments

Ryan Mason’s appointment as West Brom manager has not been successful to date.

Despite a strong start at The Hawthorns, the Baggies’ form has now crashed, with three consecutive defeats seeing the Black Country side slump to 12th in the table.

After the 0-0 draw against Sheffield Wednesday resulted in the Baggies being four points off the playoffs, criticism has been directed at Mason, with fans calling for the West Brom manager to be sacked.

Now, with the international break around the corner, Shilen Patel may be tempted to pull the trigger early, in hopes of saving the Baggies’ season before the playoffs are out of their reach.

Therefore, West Brom News has highlighted three potential managers who could take over from Mason.

Michael Carrick

Despite being seen as a top, upcoming manager at Middlesbrough, the former Manchester United star has yet to find a club since being relieved of his duties in the summer.

The midfielder spent just under three years at the Riverside Stadium, but was never able to guide them back to the Premier League.

However, Carrick was widely praised for his work at Boro, which included a run to the Carabao Cup semi-finals in the 2023/24 campaign.

With the 44-year-old knowing the Championship well, Patel may be tempted to opt for a coach with more experience in the second tier to help recover West Brom’s form.

Alex Revell

If Patel wants a manager who is on form and can surpass expectations, there are few better at the moment than Alex Revell.

The current Stevenage boss has been excellent at Boro since he rejoined the club in 2024, with the League One outfit flying this season.

Currently, Revell’s side are fourth in the table, but are only two points off the top with two games in hand.

Therefore, while the appointment could prove to be a gamble, if it pays off, it would be a masterstroke, with Revell proving to be one of the best upcoming managers in the EFL.

Gary O’Neil

While Gary O’Neil may be a former Wolves manager, the Englishman has been regularly linked to The Hawthorns since his departure from Molineux.

The upcoming coach had two spells in the Premier League at Bournemouth and the Old Gold club respectively, keeping both sides in the top-flight despite the odds being against the coach.

O’Neil was the favourite to take the West Brom job after Tony Mowbray’s sacking, and now Patel may be tempted to finally make a move.

While the appointment would be risky given his past connections, O’Neil has shown plenty of signs that he can be a top manager, proving that a deal could make perfect sense.
