Josh Griffiths at fault as Ryan Mason gamble fails – West Brom player ratings vs Charlton
Josh Griffiths was the villain as West Brom fell to a 1-0 defeat to Charlton on Tuesday.
Ryan Mason has been under pressure at West Brom after a run of just one win in their last five matches in the Championship.
Mason went with a new system as he tried to get momentum back on his side’s favour, and his goalkeeper was the star man in a stalemate, until a late blunder that resulted in another loss.
The Hawthorns outfit could not break their opposition down at the Valley on 4 November.

Josh Griffiths hugely unfortunate in West Brom loss
Josh Griffiths has established himself as the number one goalkeeper for West Brom since Alex Palmer’s departure in February.
The 24-year-old, who is a graduate of the Baggies’ academy system, has played 13 times in the Championship this season, with four clean sheets to his name.
He has conceded 13 goals in that time, proving a reliable presence between the sticks for Albion in Mason’s tenure so far.
He was on hand to save a penalty from Greg Docherty in the 36th minute, after Ousmane Diakite was adjudged to have handled inside the penalty area.
He made a stunning save to deny the hosts the lead in the 54th minute, after a shot had taken a wicked deflection.
The young stopper made several more interventions in what would have been a brilliant display, until a last-gasp long-range effort slipped under him.

Ryan Mason’s gamble does not pay off vs Charlton
Mason debuted a new system for the clash, with three centre-backs and wing-backs, with Isaac Price and Karlan Grant playing off Aune Heggebo.
While Albion created several chances and could have taken the lead several times, the finishing issues that have plagued them all season continued to hamper them in London.
Mason tried something different in an attempt to give his side an edge in attack, but ultimately, it did not pay off.
It was worth taking a gamble to try and improve results, however, the final result is what will keep the ex-Tottenham coach in the job.
Right now, they are not going his way, and surely it will be a matter of time before his job comes under question in the Black Country.
Heggebo was dragged off with ten minutes remaining after failing to record a single shot, although he did create three chances for his teammates.
