Ryan Mason has serious concern amid latest West Brom reveal

West Brom’s attacking output this season is among the worst in the Championship.

Ryan Mason is already under pressure at West Brom, and when taking into account their recent form, it is hardly surprising.

The Baggies have won just two of their last 10 games, with West Brom’s 1-0 defeat to Charlton the latest result to cast a concerning shadow over The Hawthorns.

Given the fact that West Brom have scored the least out of any Championship side outside of the bottom five, Mason has work to do, and that is only amplified by a reveal that showcases just how ineffective they really are on the ball.

West Brom dither far too much on the ball

If Albion have less possession than their opponent, they typically fare well.

All of West Brom‘s wins this season have come in games where that has been the case, with Mason effective at getting his side to hit their opponents on the counter.

However, in games where the Baggies are forced to use the ball more often, they struggle massively, and more often than not, go on to lose the game.

There’s a reason behind that, with it revealed that West Brom take around 60 passes in a passage of play before having a shot.

It’s a stat that only Derby, Sheffield United and Swansea are worse at.

Added to that, West Brom are also among the worst in the league for open play xG per 90, with less than 0.7.

Ryan Mason has no plan B

Mason is still very early into his managerial career, so there will be some slack cut for him.

However, it has come abundantly clear that West Brom have been figured out by most teams, and they know that if they force Albion to come at them, they will have a better chance of winning the game.

That needs to change, and the only way for that to happen is for West Brom to go with two strikers, to get more bodies around the opposition penalty area when they have the ball.

It’s a change that would open more space for the likes of Isaac Price and Mikey Johnston, both of whom are slowly becoming redundant in this formation.
