Will Lankshear can do something on Saturday that he never achieved at West Brom

Will Lankshear will be returning to face his former club when Oxford travel to The Hawthorns.

Ryan Mason is under extreme pressure at West Brom, with the Baggies’ latest defeat to Charlton only adding fuel to the fire when it comes to debate over his future.

Albion sit 15th in the Championship, with one win from their last six games heading into Saturday’s encounter.

Will Lankshear failed to score at The Hawthorns

In fact, despite spending part of the campaign on loan at West Brom, Lanskhear failed to score at all for the Baggies.

The Tottenham youngster made 11 appearances for West Brom, and from 1.42 xG, failed to find the back of the net on a single occasion.

It turned out to be yet another failed loan move, in a season that ended in a similar fashion.

Fast forward to now, and Lankshear has four goals for Oxford United in 14 appearances, and is actually overperforming his xG.

That is despite the fact that his side currently sit fourth bottom of the Championship, with just three wins from 14 games.

West Brom vs Oxford head-to-head

Dating all the way back to 1973, West Brom have faced off against Oxford United on 25 occasions, and have come out on top more often than not.

Albion have won 13 of those encounters, with Oxford tasting victory just five times.

The Baggies are unbeaten in their last four against The U’s, with the most recent clash ending in a 2-0 win for West Brom at The Hawthorns back in February.

Alex Mowatt, who has received some unfair criticism as of late, was on the score sheet for Albion, alongside John Swift, who netted in the 111th minute.

Mason was, of course, in charge then, and he will be fully aware of how important a win on Saturday will be when it comes to his future at the club as manager.
