West Brom ready to appoint Alex Neil as Ryan Mason grumbles start, big price emerges
Alex Neil has been named as the frontrunner to replace Ryan Mason at West Brom already.
Mason was immediately under heavy pressure to get West Brom back into the Premier League for the first time since 2020-21 at The Hawthorns.
However, a string of performances that have left the Baggies winless away from home since 31 August has contributed to fans turning against him.
West Brom beat Oxford United 2-1 on Saturday, and despite the victory at The Hawthorns temporarily lifting the mood, fans still aren’t on board with Mason‘s style of play.
Millwall manager Neil has now been touted as the frontrunner to take over in B71 as growing calls for Mason to be sacked are issued.

Alex Neil would be an incredible appointment
Neil is known for improving underperforming sides in the second tier, and he is currently excelling at Millwall.
His side are sixth in the table and are well on course to achieve something West Brom were expected to do by getting into the play-offs.
Alan Nixon has now reported on his Patreon that the Baggies are ready to turn to Neil if results don’t improve very quickly under Mason.
| Ryan Mason | Stat | Alex Neil |
| 29 | Games managed | 509 |
| 12 | Wins | 214 |
| 5 | Draws | 118 |
| 12 | Losses | 177 |
| 41.38 | Win percentage | 42.04 |
The Sun journalist has revealed that a big price is on the head of the Scotsman at The Den, who is quickly turning into the preferred option.
Neil has been linked with the West Brom job in the past, and his record in the Championship could help the Baggies get out of the rut they find themselves in.
West Brom were among the favourites for a play-off place at the start of the season, yet they currently sit 14th in the Championship table.
Whether the 44-year-old would leave the Lions is another question, but it’s clear that Shilen Patel and co. are ready to move on from Mason very soon.

West Brom’s attacking threat has been incredibly poor throughout the season, with their total of 14 goals the fourth-worst in the division.
Why is Ryan Mason facing the sack?
It boils down to several reasons, but essentially, the football on display has been drab and uninspiring.
Samuel Iling-Junior was hugely ineffective, whilst West Brom’s over-reliance on Mikey Johnston and Isaac Price could not have been any clearer against the struggling Sheffield Wednesday.
Aune Heggebo, Josh Maja, and Daryl Dike have all underwhelmed, costing the Baggies crucial points in matches that were there for the taking.
The fans have turned on Mason after a promising start to the season saw them second in the league after five games, and it looks like Neil could be the man to take his position if needed.
