West Brom tipped to sign Patrick Bamford on ‘pay as-you-play deal’ to revive Championship promotion bid

West Brom fans are in agreement on a possible move for free agent Patrick Bamford after his summer exit from Leeds United.

Ryan Mason has had to endure striker issues this season as Aune Heggebo has taken time to settle in at the Black Country Club.

Josh Maja has struggled with his fitness this season, and after 15 games in the Championship this campaign, Mason’s side have only scored 14 goals.

West Brom are still hopeful of securing promotion to the Premier League, but to do so, they are going to need more firepower to get them over the line.

However, do Baggies fans think Bamford is the answer?

West Brom fans want Patrick Bamford

Bamford was made a free agent after coming to a mutual agreement with Leeds in August to depart after being told he was not in Daniel Farke’s plans for the Whites’ Premier League campaign.

The striker departed Elland Road as a two-time promotion winner and had his best season in England’s top flight during the 2020-21 campaign.

West Brom’s attack under Mason has been slammed, with many fans now supporting the suggestion of a move for Bamford.

One Baggies fan said: “I’d take Bamford in a heartbeat.”

Another West Brom fan said: “Good when fit, but injury prone.”

West Brom fans should fear Bamford’s injury record

One of the main reasons that Bamford has struggled in his career of late is due to injury problems.

Bamford has struggled with injuries for Leeds, including hamstring and knee issues. He was limited to just 18 appearances for the Whites last season.

However, the striker has been training with fellow Championship side Coventry City recently, which is said to be purely for fitness reasons.

If West Brom made a move for Bamford now, they could be getting a fairly up-to-speed striker who could hit the ground running.

But there’s no doubt a move would come with its risks, but it could also be a gamble that pays off handsomely.
