Isaac Price goes above and beyond for West Brom as telling new figure emerges

Isaac Price has played with an abundance of energy for West Brom in the Championship this season.

Price has earned widespread praise at West Brom, but the Baggies’ recent drop-off prior to the Oxford United win saw some begin to question the midfielder.

The Northern Ireland international has been a shining light for the Baggies, who sit 14th in the table as Ryan Mason faces intense scrutiny surrounding his future.

The football hasn’t been good enough by any measure, but Price’s influence out wide has papered over the cracks in certain matches where the team’s performance was shaky.

Isaac Price’s athleticism is key for West Brom

In West Brom’s 2-1 win over Oxford last Saturday, Price became the Albion player to have covered the most distance in a match this season in what is a telling statistic.

Having gone through the Everton youth academy, Price enjoyed his first period of success in senior football for Belgian side Standard Liege, before moving to West Brom in January.

Price’s excellent goal against Preston summed up his quality, and West Brom fans have been delighted with his ruthlessness in front of goal all season.

However, in West Brom’s victory over Oxford, Price’s energetic display more than played its part in a crucial victory for Mason’s men.

Price has become a real game-changer for the Baggies, and he is someone who can produce a moment of magic out of nowhere.

He has also refined his defensive side of the game, making 14 tackles and winning 49 duels over the course of the campaign.

Mason has a real gem on his hands, and Price’s availability will be key if West Brom are to turn their season around.

Josh Maja and Aune Heggebo have both been disappointing up front, and the goalscoring burden has often fallen on Price as a result.

West Brom’s striker dilemma is costing them dearly

The Baggies have scored three goals in their last six matches, and they’ve only scored three goals in a match on one occasion this season.

The 24-year-old has registered an expected goals (xG) of 2.81 in 15 league appearances, yet he has only scored twice for his new club.

West Brom often rely on Johnston or Price to create something special, and Mason is clearly finding out that his footballing philosophy is not sustainable at this level.

As for Maja, he’s scored once from an xG of 1.63, and it’s clear that the strikers aren’t getting much service in the box.

It’s allowed for Price to get the limelight for his stellar displays, but ultimately, it’s simply not good enough from the strike force if they want to be pushing for a playoff place in May.
