Callum Styles makes stark admission on international duty that West Brom fans will agree with

Callum Styles has opened up on what he must do to take his game to the next level at West Brom.

Styles made his 29th cap for the Hungarian national side in the win 1-0 win over Armenia on Thursday, with his first senior call-up coming in 2022.

Ryan Mason was immediately under heavy pressure to get West Brom back into the Premier League for the first time since the 2020-21 season, and the Baggies currently sit 14th in the Championship table.

West Brom are underperforming in the Championship, and Styles has spoken out on how he must improve his attacking numbers for the Baggies.

Callum Styles wants to add more goal contributions for West Brom

Styles joined West Brom from Barnsley in 2024 and has become a mainstay in the first team ever since.

Styles spoke to the Hungarian press while out on international duty on Thursday about West Brom’s aims to get back in the Premier League.

He said: “We need to start winning games. Despite the outstanding individual performances, we are currently in the middle of the table.

As for me, I feel in good shape. I help the team, but the goals and assists are missing.”

Albion fans will all agree that, as good as Styles has been overall, he could do with adding more assists to his game certainly.

Since his move to the Baggies, the 25-year-old has shown how versatile he is through his attacking and defensive qualities.

Styles has been touted to play in midfield for the Baggies, and it’s evident that, for a player used predominantly as a full-back, he has a lot of promising attacking qualities.

For Hungary, he plays more regularly in the heart of midfield, and it’s clear he has the ability to chip in with some goal contributions from the full-back areas.

However, with Styles making 14 appearances in the Championship at left-back, current evidence suggests that Mason’s philosophy will prohibit him from registering attacking returns.

West Brom stifled by lack of creativity and finishing

Mason’s style of play has been drab and uninspiring in recent matches, despite making such a promising start to the season.

Aune Heggebo, Josh Maja and Daryl Dike have all underwhelmed when used, costing the Baggies crucial points in matches that were there for the taking.

It will be a tall order for Styles to start adding those attacking returns to his game under Mason, as he’s yet to register a goal or assist in 2025-26.

If he can make that next step, then it could spark a brilliant revival in West Brom’s season.
