What Brandon Thomas-Asante said after West Brom exit ahead of Saturday reunion

Brandon Thomas-Asante will face off against his former club when Coventry host West Brom on Saturday.

West Brom parted ways with Thomas-Asante in 2024, when the Ghana striker joined Coventry City.

Throughout his two seasons at The Hawthorns, Thomas-Asante scored 21 goals and provided two assists in his 78 appearances for the Baggies.

Since moving to the CBS Arena, the 26-year-old has certainly found his best form and will be hoping to inflict more hurt on his former club on Saturday.

West Brom still in the heart of Thomas-Asante

Thomas-Asante had a rough start to life at Coventry.

Despite making 43 appearances in his first season under Frank Lampard, he scored just six goals and was written off by many supporters.

However, with 10 goals already this season, he is winning back the trust of the Coventry support, though he still has a soft spot for Albion, given the fact that they were the side to give him the platform to build from.

Thomas-Asante’s stats for Coventry this season

When his exit from The Hawthorns was confirmed last year, it was met with a mixed reaction from Albion supporters, though he didn’t let that distract him from the gratitude he had for his former club.

It’s been under two years, but the love I felt will stay with me for a lifetime,” Thomas-Asante said of his time at West Brom.

“I will cherish the connection with the Hawthorns crowd, it was an absolute honour to be the top scorer in my two seasons here.

“Going forward, I hope the fans can be fulfilled as the club continues on this trajectory, returning to the heights you all desire and deserve.”

West Brom are no longer on the same trajectory

West Brom have struggled massively under Ryan Mason, and anything other than a defeat against Coventry would be a good result at this stage.

While Thomas-Asante never necessarily looked like being the man to change their fortunes, Albion has struggled massively in front of goal, with far too much pressure on Josh Maja to deliver.

It remains to be seen what reception the former Albion man gets from the travelling support on Saturday, with frustrations growing at the lack of optimism.
