Harry Gray to become West Brom’s first January signing after exit update from Leeds

Harry Gray could be on the move to the Championship this January.

West Brom look miles away from promotion this season, and the only way to rectify that will be to recruit well when the winter transfer window opens.

With just 14 goals from their 15 league games so far this campaign, West Brom have struggled massively in forward areas, with their goal tally the lowest of any side outside of the bottom six.

Addressing that will be a key priority for Ryan Mason, if he keeps his job at The Hawthorns, and the chance to sign one of England’s highest-rated forwards could emerge.

Leeds United open to Harry Gray exit

Alan Nixon reported over the weekend that Gray is attracting interest from the Championship ahead of a January loan move, with Leeds seemingly keen on him getting first-team action.

At just 17 years old, he is yet to make an appearance for the Whites in the Premier League, though his goal record at youth level will be appealing to any side outside of the top flight, and that is likely to include West Brom.

Gray has 10 goals and two assists for Leeds’ Under-21s, having played just 11 times.

Despite his age, his finishing ability is remarkable, and with the attacking struggles demonstrated by West Brom under Mason, it’s highly likely that it will be an area they look to recruit in.

With uncertainty over the future of Josh Maja and the struggles of those fighting for a starting spot at the top of the pitch, Albion could do a lot worse than pursue a deal for Gray, regardless of his age.

Archie Gray may be overshadowed by his younger brother

Archie Gray is comfortably Leeds’ biggest success story over the last few years, though his brother, Harry, has often been tipped for an even bigger future.

Earlier this year, when the teenager was linked with a move to Tottenham, former Albion striker Don Goodman praised his talent and tipped him for the top.

Via Football League World, he said: “Personally, I don’t think Spurs are going to be on their own when it comes to high-end clubs scouting Harry Gray.

“The reports coming out of Elland Road are sensational, in that this could be a very special talent, maybe even more so than his brother Archie, which would be an incredible feat.

“At that age, you need a slow, considered introduction to football, where you’re not overworked, but you get plenty of opportunities at first-team level.”

At West Brom, they would be able to offer him that, and it’s a deal that would make sense for all parties.

The Baggies would be getting an exciting young player for the season, Gray would be getting a real taste of senior football, and Leeds would be able to monitor his development ahead of a potential promotion to the first team next season.

A January move to The Hawthorns would be a win-win situation for all involved.
