Ryan Mason could be back in deep trouble as West Brom stare at unwanted 40-year first vs Coventry City
Ryan Mason eased some of the growing pressure with a crucial win prior to the international break, but that could all change once again as West Brom prepare to travel to Coventry City.
West Brom fans appear to be boycotting the fixture at CBS Arena as they protest against the extortionate ticket prices.
Supporters are also not exactly won over by Mason‘s style of play, with Albion struggling to hit the heights many were expecting this campaign.
Indeed, West Brom won just one out of six games heading into the clash with Oxford United prior to the international break.
Mason was under sack pressure at The Hawthorns ahead of that match, but West Brom beat Oxford 2-1 to lift some of the clouds of doom.
However, all it takes is one defeat for all that to change, and Coventry are the strongest team in the Championship right now.
Coventry seeking rare back-to-back wins vs West Brom
West Brom were beaten 2-0 by Coventry on their most recent visit to CBS Arena in April, with Jack Rudoni and Matt Grimes scoring in either half.
Callum Styles’ red card with six minutes of the second period played capped what was a bad day at the office for Albion as their playoff hopes took a dent.
That ended a run of four-successive defeats in this fixture for Coventry. In fact, they have not won back-to-back against West Brom since 1985.

That is a 40-year run Mason will not want to see ended this weekend, knowing the supporters will be right on his back once again if Albion lose for a fifth away game running, especially to a local rival.
Brandon Thomas-Asante destined to score vs former side West Brom
West Brom fans were always split on Brandon Thomas-Asante when he was at The Hawthorns, but the doubters are now seeing exactly what he is capable of when given the right service.
Thomas-Asante gave his best wishes to West Brom when leaving the club last year and opting to join Coventry, where he has had a good time of things – especially this season.
The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals in 15 Championship games this season, seeing him joint-top of the Championship goalscoring charts alongside Derby County’s Carlton Morris.
| Player | Games | Goals |
| Brandon Thomas-Asante | 10 | 15 |
| Carlton Morris | 10 | 15 |
| Haji Wright | 8 | 14 |
Thomas-Asante has scored in each of his past four home appearances for Coventry, scoring four times in total, and many West Brom fans are already accepting the inevitable on Saturday.
Coventry are top of the division for a reason, but hopefully Mason can set up his side to take a point back to The Hawthorns in order to avoid an unwanted four-decade first.
