What did Charlie Blackshields do to impress Ryan Mason?

Blackshields notched the fourth Baggies goal in a brilliant evening for Leigh Downing‘s side as they swept the Hatters away.

He picked up the ball on the edge on the box, took a touch, and released a stunning curling effort past Lucas Thomas, with his weaker left foot.

Albion shared the footage on their official X account on 19 November, and Mason will surely be impressed by the strike.

Who is West Brom youngster Blackshields?

Blackshields joined the Baggies in the Under-7s/8s level and has remained with the B71 club ever since, signing a scholarship deal in 2024.

He has evolved into a holding midfielder after initially starting as a defender when he joined, and he operates in the six role, primarily for the Under-18s.

He has featured 27 times for the 18s and has made five appearances for the Under-21s, with three goals and one assist in that time, across the academy sides.

The Baggies have proudly promoted youth into the first team recently, with the likes of Alex Palmer and Fellows starring in the West Midlands, before earning big money moves away.

It is a worthwhile strategy for solving the financial issues that Guochuan Lai’s disastrous reign left the club with, and it could be set to continue in the future.

Throstles supporters will hope to see some of their academy products playing for their team, rather than leaving to balance the books, and the midfield that hails from Sutton Coldfield could be the next one up.
