West Brom fans in surprise agreement over Ryan Mason after Birmingham City draw

West Brom fans diverted blame away from Ryan Mason following the draw against Birmingham City.

Mason has been under increasing pressure at West Brom for not only performances, but also results.

West Brom drew 1-1 with Birmingham on Wednesday at The Hawthorns, despite leading for the majority of the game.

Isaac Price came under fire for his attacking performance, as the Baggies are now sitting 17th after the latest round of games.

Mason has been the usual victim of criticism after frustrating results, but fan reaction suggests that the head coach did all he could against Birmingham.

West Brom fans feel let down by the players

At the end of the day, Mason and his staff prepare West Brom all week for games in the Championship, but the players also have to hold up their end of the bargain.

The Baggies boss had to face adversity when losing Toby Collyer in the 11th minute, but regardless of this, Albion had every chance to put the game to bed.

Birmingham grabbed a point after a 78th-minute equaliser from Marvin Ducksch, but West Brom fans seem to think Mason “isn’t at fault” for the dropped points.

One X user’s assessment of the game prompted many Albion supporters to come together in agreement.

One West Brom fan said: “200 per cent. Take our chances, we win tonight. It isn’t his fault.”

Another Baggies supporter said: “Tonight’s result wasn’t down to him. Could have/should have put that game to bed well before they equalised.”

It seems like Baggies fans have perhaps had a slight lift of confidence in Mason, with one outcome now very likely.

Ryan Mason may be given until January at West Brom

Shilen Patel is going to have to decide sooner rather than later if he thinks Mason is truly the man to take the Black Country club forward.

It feels like there’s a massive opportunity for promotion this season, given a clear lack of quality in the Championship, but concerns remain that West Brom may not reach the Premier League.

The January transfer window is looming, but that only comes before a congested period of fixtures that could decide Mason’s fate.

If West Brom are to get promoted this campaign, Patel is going to need to invest in January.

However, he may hesitate if there are doubts over Mason, so a decision needs to be made.
