West Brom fans rage over ‘shocking’ Nat Phillips after ‘dumbfounding’ incident vs Swansea

Nat Phillips has been subjected to scathing criticism after his performance during West Brom’s 3-2 win over Swansea City at The Hawthorns.

Goals from Zan Vipotnik and Ethan Galbraith left West Brom 2-0 down within 12 minutes, before they mounted a remarkable comeback in the second half.

Aune Heggebo’s double and Jayson Molumby’s winner ensured West Brom won their seventh game of the season, snd the result leaves them 13th in the Championship table.

Phillips joined West Brom from Liverpool this summer, excelling in his first five Championship games for the club.

Phillips has already been under intense scrutiny for switching off in big games, and fans were certainly unimpressed with his role in Vipotnik’s early goal.

Nat Phillips crucified for what he did for Zan Vipotnik’s goal

Just 11 seconds into the match, West Brom were already picking the ball out of their net after woeful defending.

Swansea launched the ball forward from kick-off, and Phillips went over to the right-back position to head it away.

However, this left him completely out of position, and Goncalo Franco slid the ball in to Vipotnik, who produced a sublime finish over Josh Griffiths.

He was then shown a yellow card after a crunching tackle on Franco in the 32nd minute, and he was then subbed off at half-time for Krystian Bielik.

According to FotMob, he won only 40 per cent of ground duels and 50 per cent of his aerial duels.

Despite registering a 98 per cent pass accuracy, supporters were ruthless when criticising him online.

One Albion fan couldn’t believe Phillips’ decision to run out wide to compete for that header.

Another supporter has already written off Phillips’ ability after the poor mistake at The Hawthorns.

It’s clear that the Baggies supporters aren’t impressed with their centre-back, and his performances have taken a worrying decline in recent weeks.

Nat Phillips certainly hasn’t lived up to expectation

At the start of the season, Phillips had been widely praised by Baggies fans for his aggressive and brave defending.

However, that couldn’t be further from the case at the moment, with the 28-year-old struggling to form a strong partnership alongside Chris Mepham.

Philipps’ early-season form had supporters thinking he could be one of the key men to lead their promotion charge.

However, West Brom thrived with Philipps off the pitch, and he is continuing to show that he is prone to poor mistakes.
