West Brom ready January pre-contract agreement to sign Rangers midfielder

West Brom are already gearing up ahead of the January transfer window.

Ryan Mason is under pressure at West Brom after a difficult start to the campaign at The Hawthorns.

The sack looked destined over the weekend before West Brom came back to beat Swansea City 3-2 after going two down with just 11 minutes gone.

Summer signing Aune Heggebo has been top class for West Brom in recent weeks and acts as a positive example moving into the winter window.

The Baggies look to be keen on adding to their midfield conversation this season, with a swoop at Rangers looking likely.

West Brom want Bailey Rice on free transfer from Rangers

Jayson Molumby has faced criticism at West Brom this season, particularly after his daft red card away to Coventry City.

The Republic of Ireland man was partially to blame for throwing away that result, but he was much-improved against Swansea last time around.

He has competition with the likes of Alex Mowatt, Ousmane Diakite and Toby Collyer in the squad, but it looks as if a midfield addition is still on the cards in January.

The Mail Online have reported on 2 December that West Brom are in the running to sign Bailey Rice from Rangers after the Scottish Premiership side failed to tie him down to a new contract.

The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has attracted the interest of Aston Villa, West Brom and Cardiff City to this point.

Albion have already shown their willingness to discuss a pre-contract agreement with the midfielder, but they have to wait until January, when he can speak to interested clubs.

Rice could be useful asset for West Brom

The Scotland youth international has hardly been afforded a chance at Ibrox, even with their recent struggles under Danny Rohl and Russell Martin.

Rice has been limited to just 217 league minutes so far this campaign, so a move away from Govan would make perfect sense from a personal perspective.

West Brom and Mason could make a home for the midfielder, with there is no doubt about the potential that he could bring to The Hawthorns.

The teen has shown some flashes of quality with the Gers, but if given a better chance in the Championship, there is every chance he could thrive.
