West Brom gem could go same way as Saido Berahino as ideal transfer talked up
West Brom starlet Ollie Bostock has been tipped to follow in Saido Berahino’s footsteps by joining a League Two side on loan.
Berahino was one of West Brom’s most exciting talents in recent times, when he burst onto the scene during the 2013-14 season.
The striker made his professional debut in 2011 while on loan at Northampton in League Two, before returning to West Brom as a Premier League-ready forward.
Bostock is a young gem for West Brom and has been impressing for the youth side for a while, with Ryan Mason even handing him his first senior minutes in the Baggies’ 3-0 loss to Millwall in October.
EFL expert Gabriel Sutton believes he’s now found the perfect League Two club where Bostock can go, and potentially emulate a breakthrough similar to Berahino’s.

Ollie Bostock backed to join Chesterfield in January
Bostock is naturally a winger who likes to create and attack with his lightning pace and tricky dribbling ability.
He is now 18 years old, and with the teenager due to be back fit in December after an ankle injury, January could be the perfect time for him to gain valuable first-team minutes.

- He has two goals this season
- He is right-footed
While commenting on Boston on X, Sutton highlighted Chesterfield as the ideal place for the teenager to go in January.
Sutton said: “Ollie Bostock could be a smart loan pickup for Chesterfield in January. A highly-rated prospect at West Brom, only 18, captained Wales U17s at Euro 2024 and scored lots of goals in the PL2.
“Spireites have already got a very experienced squad, I feel like they could do with a touch of youthful exuberance.”
Bostock should be made available for loan, and West Brom need to take a look at how successful Berahino was in League Two.

Saido Berahino’s early loan move started his West Brom success
During the 2011-2012 campaign, Albion decided to loan out a then-teenage Berahino to Northampton.
His time with the Cobblers was a true success, as the striker then made his West Brom debut the following season.

Although Berahino isn’t welcome back at West Brom, his loan move certainly paid off for the Black Country club.
There’s no doubt the short stint will have taught the forward how to cope against senior opposition, and it showed with his success after returning.
The Baggies ended up selling him for £12million to Stoke City in 2016, and Bostock could prove to be a huge revelation too, should he follow suit.
