West Brom must call quits on Toby Collyer loan as talks open with Manchester United

West Brom and Manchester United are in new conversations over the future of Toby Collyer.

Collyer signed for West Brom in the summer, but has seriously struggled for regular minutes under Ryan Mason this campaign.

There have been calls for the loanee to start more, especially after Jayson Molumby was sent off against Coventry City in ridiculous fashion.

The midfielder’s spell at The Hawthorns has been marred by injury, with Collyer returning to Man United for recovery already this season.

It now appears that Collyer could go back to Old Trafford permanently ahead of the January window after talks began between the parties.

Toby Collyer returns to Manchester United for injury recovery

Collyer suffered an injury with West Brom earlier in the season, but did return and featured in games throughout November.

The 21-year-old made substitute appearances against Oxford United, Coventry and Birmingham City, but hasn’t been seen since.

Having made just three Championship starts, his absence hasn’t necessarily been felt on the pitch, but his latest issue will cause issues in the squad.

The Baggies are set to be without Collyer for at least a month, with Mason confirming that the midfielder has suffered a serious calf injury.

Conversations have begun over a rehabilitation plan for the teenager after his Red Devils return, but it could be wise for all parties to call it quits this winter.

West Brom could cancel Collyer loan in January

Things just haven’t worked out for the youngster in the Midlands, even with the rave reviews he came in with after his academy days.

Mason has never been completely trusting of Collyer, and that reflects in the general lack of minutes he has featured across in the Championship.

If he is going to be held back with injuries, it could make sense for everyone for him to recover from injury and start fresh elsewhere.

West Brom need new signings in January, and it feels as if losing the United loanee could open doors for Albion in the winter market.
