Alex Mowatt dreadful, 2/10 fails to grab chance – West Brom player ratings vs QPR

Alex Mowatt was one of many players to perform badly during West Brom’s abysmal 3-1 defeat to QPR on Saturday.

After a cagey first half, Jonathan Varane gave QPR the lead in stoppage time with a powerful header that gave Joe Wildsmith no chance.

The home side doubled the lead when Rumarn Burnell capitalised on Alex Mowatt’s poor mistake.

Aune Heggebo continued his fine form by scoring a spectacular header, but Burrell put the game beyond doubt in the 87th minute.

Mason is under huge pressure at West Brom as the result leaves his side 15th in the Championship table, and a sixth away defeat in a row has left the fans furious once again.

Alex Mowatt makes crucial mistake vs QPR

Mowatt has been excellent at times for West Brom, although it’s clear that he was well below par at Loftus Road.

With the Baggies trailing 1-0, Mowatt‘s careless pass was intercepted by Richard Kone, which fell to Burnell.

The QPR forward finished the chance with confidence, and it ultimately proved to be the decisive moment in the match.

According to FotMob, Mowatt won just one of his six attempted duels, and it was an uncharacteristic performance that summed up West Brom‘s day.

The midfielder has certainly been one of the brighter sparks of West Brom’s season, and the team clearly suffered a result of his underwhelming display.

Another man who performed well below his standards was Wildsmith, who looked nervy throughout the match

Joe Wildsmith completely out of his depth for West Brom

The big news before the game was that Josh Griffiths had been dropped by Mason after making a huge mistake in the 3-2 win over Swansea.

Wildsmith came into the team as a result, but failed to deliver an assured performance in what was his first game of the season.

Throughout the match, his clearances and passes failed to find a teammate, and he became increasingly irate between the sticks.

In the second half, Wildsmith and Mepham fail to deal with a long ball, almost allowing Burnell to find the back of the net again.

Having made 12 appearances prior to the QPR match, Wildsmith’s West Brom career certainly hasn’t been filled with promise, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Griffiths back in the team for Tuesday’s match against Southampton.

All in all, it has been a terrible day for West Brom, and most of the players have let their fans down once again.
