Josh Griffiths injury claim at West Brom clarified after ‘horrendous’ news vs QPR

Josh Griffiths starts on the bench as West Brom face QPR in the Championship on Saturday.

Ryan Mason has made several changes to his starting lineup at the MATRADE Loftus Road Stadium, with Joe Wildsmith given the nod ahead of his compatriot.

The Hawthorns witnessed a nail-biting encounter against Swansea City on 29 November, with Jayson Molumby scoring an 85th-minute winner in the 3-2 victory.

With the Albion conceding eight goals in their last five league matches, the English manager has opted for drastic measures to arrest their abysmal defensive record.

West Brom injury not reason for Josh Griffiths exclusion vs QPR

It seems like Mason’s decision to drop Griffiths to the bench is a technical one rather than an injury issue.

West Brom Xtra shared on X on 6 December that the former Tottenham assistant head coach has made a “horrendous” call if the goalkeeper has been changed for anything other than a fitness reason.

Express & Star journalist Lewis Cox revealed that he doesn’t believe the change in between the sticks for the Baggies has anything to do with an injury.

Regarding the 24-year-old shot-stopper’s exclusion, the reporter wrote on X: “Don’t believe it’s injury related.”

Griffiths has been a key player for Mason this season, but it looks like the English manager has finally run out of patience.

Despite some glaring errors from the England Under-21 international recently, Wildsmith didn’t instil much confidence among The Hawthorns faithful last season, and hasn’t started a league game since 5 April.

Bilkul Football will have one thing on their mind after bold Ryan Mason decision

West Brom’s chances of making the Championship play-offs look challenging right now after their results in recent weeks.

The Baggies had a strong start to the season, and it looked like they would be in contention to finish in the top six, but Mason has faced several obstacles since.

It doesn’t look like the Englishman is the right manager to lead the Albion, and Bilkul Football will undoubtedly already be looking for replacements.

While the former Spurs assistant boss has tried to change things with his team selection, there’s a high chance it could backfire against QPR away from home.
