Shilen Patel demanded to take action after Ryan Mason response to West Brom loss

West Brom fans have called on Shilen Patel to sack Ryan Mason following Saturday’s defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

Mason’s West Brom were beaten 3-1 by QPR at Loftus Road – where they traditionally do well – as they lost for a sixth successive away game.

A risk was taken as Mason made five changes to West Brom’s XI, including a change in goal, which ultimately did not pay off.

West Brom now have a midweek trip to Southampton, albeit there is a weather warning in place for that one, and there is a fear things could get worse before they get better.

Ryan Mason reacts to West Brom’s loss vs QPR

West Brom fans were understandably not happy with what they saw from their side in West London on Saturday afternoon.

Mason was asked for his thoughts after the game and gave what is now his customary post-match interview following a disappointing result.

Speaking to West Brom’s website, Mason said: “Goals change games. We could see in the second half how we came out, had opportunities to score, then a mistake happens and we’re punished for it.

“We came back, showed some fight and played some really good football as we got it to 2-1. We had a few attempts but the third goal was really poor. At this level, you can’t gift the opposition.

Mason did at least accept his side’s shortcomings, rather than arguing the case that they were worthy of a point or more.

However, supporters responded to the post via X in their numbers, with many saying the same thing.

“Bored of these monotonous, flat and repetitive interviews saying the same nonsense after yet another woeful performance,” one fan posted.

Wanted to give this guy a chance, but it’s really damn hard to get behind him when performances like that are now just becoming the norm. Change is needed.

Many others said similar.

Another personally tagged Shilen Patel and simply said: “[Michael] Carrick in.”

History suggests Mason could be in more trouble after Southampton game

The quick turnaround in fixtures can often be a blessing for an under-fire manager, but that will not be the case with this one coming away from home.

The Baggies have been terrible on their travels all season and those making the trip to St Mary’s will not have much hope of things changing on the South Coast.

To make matters worse for Mason, Southampton have gone four without defeat against West Brom in Championship meetings.

Should another defeat be added to the tally on Tuesday, that may well prove the final straw for Patel – news to the ears of plenty of Albion fans.
