Toby Collyer left in further West Brom limbo as Man United exit announced

Jonny Evans’ resignation at Manchester United could have significant ramifications for Toby Collyer’s future at West Brom.

The 21-year-old has featured in 12 Championship games under Ryan Mason, becoming a bright spark since moving to The Hawthorns on loan.

However, Collyer suffered a calf injury in the 1-1 draw with Birmingham on 26 November, which is likely to keep him out of action until the end of January.

This development has thrown his future at The Hawthorns into doubt, even though the Baggies are light in midfield, and his loan ends in the summer.

Collyer returned to Man United for rehabilitation, and with talks beginning over his loan being cancelled in January, the departure of Evans has certainly added an element of confusion to his future.

Jonny Evans steps down from position at Man United

Evans, who coincidentally made 96 appearances for the Baggies between 2015 and 2018 during his playing career, became Man United’s head of loans and pathways after just six months.

However, Simon Stone announced that Evans had stepped down from his role on 8 December.

This certainly throws a spanner in the works regarding Collyer’s future in B71, with his departure now looking uncertain as a result.

Collyer has been full of energy all season and has been overlooked at times, after making only three starts for West Brom.

The Man United loanee has suffered hamstring injuries in the past, and, unfortunately, this recurrence has kept him out for an extended period.

Collyer impressed in the 3-0 defeat to Millwall on 4 October, and Evans’ departure leaves fans completely clueless about whether the youngster may feature in a West Brom shirt again.

Despite Evans’ exit, Collyer could still be officially recalled, and this would be hugely damaging to the depth in West Brom’s midfield.

Toby Collyer’s potential exit means West Brom will have to buy a new midfielder

Alex Mowatt seems to be Mr. consistent in the middle of the park, although his poor performance in the 3-1 loss to QPR on Saturday was far from what’s required at a Championship level.

Jayson Molumby has been a polarising figure throughout the season after receiving a red card against Coventry City before scoring the winner against Swansea City just one week later.

Ousmane Diakite is the only player who can naturally step in to fill a void in the midfield, and Collyer’s absence certainly leaves them light in that position.

As a result, the Baggies will be forced to act in the January transfer window, with Rangers youngster Bailey Rice the first name already linked with a move to B71.
