QPR to auction famous Peter Odemwingie item from wild West Brom transfer saga – details here

Peter Odemwingie caused a stir when he tried to sign for Queens Park Rangers from West Brom in 2013.

Odemwingie won the Premier League player of the month award three times with West Brom, but decided that he wanted to leave The Hawthorns in January 2013.

He ended up turning up at Loftus Road on deadline day, without permission from the Baggies, in a wild move that summed up the saga.

Now, a piece of history from that potential transfer is now up for grabs.

QPR to auction Odemwingie shirt from failed West Brom exit

Odemwingie ended up staying at West Brom, eventually leaving for Cardiff City in the summer transfer window in 2013.

However, QPR’s head of retail, Francis Atkinson, had made a shirt for Odemwingie, and that will now go on sale, according to Sky Sports.

A report on 9 December claimed that the London club will auction the shirt on 10 December at 16:00 GMT.

West Brom need a player like Odemwingie right now

Odemwingie was a remarkable player in his time in the Black Country, with 31 goals and 14 assists in 90 matches for Albion, before he departed.

The Nigerian attacker notched a tally of 10 goals or more in two separate Premier League seasons, and never played in the Championship in his time with the West Midlands outfit.

His signature from Lokomotiv Moscow for £2.5million, which was a bargain at the time, and looks even better now, with the inflated nature of the market at the moment.

The Baggies need to repeat what they did with Odemwingie, sign a promising attacker for a low fee, and have him turn into a top-flight star.

Right now, that looks unlikely, and they look destined for another campaign of misery and disappointment, with Ryan Mason under immense pressure to stay in the dugout.

He would love to have a player like Odemwingie in his squad, as it would ease the burden, but unfortunately for the ex-Tottenham coach, his current options are underperforming, and it may cost him his job.
