West Brom fans want Samuel Iling-Junior gone after ‘awful’ scenes in loss vs Southampton

Samuel Iling-Junior is not favoured by fans at the moment after producing another terrible performance in West Brom’s 3-2 loss to Southampton.

Ryan Mason is on the verge of the sack following Tuesday’s defeat, with West Brom supporters at St. Mary’s calling for him to be dismissed.

Leo Scienza gave Southampton the lead before Adam Armstrong’s double saw the hosts 3-0 up within 35 minutes.

A second-half fightback included goals from Karlan Grant and Nat Phillips, although the Baggies were unable to find an equaliser in the final minutes of the match.

West Brom’s loss to Southampton marks their seventh consecutive away defeat under Mason, although they could have snatched an unlikely point if Iling-Junior converted a golden opportunity at the death.

Samuel Iling-Junior berated by fans after late miss

The 22-year-old joined the Baggies on loan from Aston Villa, and he has only scored one goal so far this season.

Iling-Junior was crucified by Andy Johnson for his role in getting Ousmane Diakite booked in the first half, although the worst was yet to come.

In the 94th minute, West Brom thought they had their equaliser when Callum Styles’ low cross found the young winger at the back post.

Eight yards out, he somehow managed to side-foot the ball well wide of the post, spurning West Brom’s last chance of the game.

In such an important match, the Aston Villa loanee failed to deliver, and supporters were ruthless in their criticism of him online.

One fan said that Iling-Junior should be sent back to Aston Villa after his costly miss.

Another supporter alluded to the fact that his miss could lead to Mason’s imminent exit.

Iling-Junior has been disappointing throughout the season, and it seems incredibly confusing that he started over Mikey Johnston.

Mikey Johnston snub is proof Ryan Mason needs to go

Johnston’s performance against Coventry was hailed, and his two assists against the league leaders showcased how important he was to the Baggies’ attacking play.

With nine goal contributions in 15 Championship matches, he is their biggest goal threat, and it was a huge shock to see him drop to the bench in favour of Iling-Junior.

The Baggies currently sit 16th in the table, and who knows where they’d be if it weren’t for Johnston’s impact.

Tuesday’s match was crucial for Mason’s future in B71, and his decision to drop his talisman for a player out of form is truly baffling, signalling exactly why supporters have wanted him gone for several weeks.
