Michael Carrick transfer budget revealed for January if West Brom favourite replaces Ryan Mason
Ryan Mason is under heavy pressure at West Brom, with Michael Carrick seen as a potential replacement.
After the Baggies’ 3-2 defeat to Southampton, Mason’s job appears to be hanging in the balance at The Hawthorns.
West Brom are 16th in the Championship, six points off the playoffs, and are at serious risk of being dragged into a relegation battle.
As a result, Mason could soon be replaced, with Michael Carrick one of the favourites to take over at The Hawthorns.
However, whoever is in charge come January may not have a lot of wiggle room in the transfer window.

West Brom unlikely to spend big in January
In the summer transfer window, West Brom spent well over £10million on various players.
Stars such as Aune Heggebo and Nat Phillips came into The Hawthorns for notable fees as Mason looked to reshape the squad.
Now, despite actually making a profit in the summer, finance expert Dan Plumley believes that it is unlikely the Black Country club would spend big, even if a new manager was appointed.
- West Brom are currently 16th in the Championship
- The Baggies have only won two of their last 10 matches
- Mason is now under heavy pressure at West Brom
“Given the current league position, I think it would be a risk to spend high amounts of money in January,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“The finances appear to be shifting in a more positive direction following the change in ownership, but given the spend already committed to Mason, I would be surprised to see them spend big again even if a new manager comes in.”

What are West Brom’s odds of achieving promotion?
According to Opta on 11 December, the Baggies’ odds of going up are now extremely slim.
The odds of promotion through either winning the title or finishing second are now just 0.04 per cent and 0.28 per cent.
Winning the playoffs is seen as more feasible at 5.88 per cent, but this is still extremely low compared to the majority of other Championship sides.
Luckily, the odds of being relegated to League One as also small, standing at 4.10 per cent.
