West Brom secured a 2-0 win against Sheffield United, but it was not without controversy.

Ryan Mason eased the pressure on his West Brom future, however, question marks were raised about the legitimacy of Karlan Grant's strike.

The Blades wanted a foul given before the Baggies star fired his side 2-0 ahead at The Hawthorns, but the goal stood, and Albion went on to win comfortably.

There was another incident, as Ollie Arblaster caught Aune Heggebo in the 64th minute with a late challenge and was not penalised by the referee.

Karlan Grant goal should have been disallowed in West Brom win

Grant was the unsung hero as West Brom won, with his stunning strike being the cherry on top of a brilliant performance.

However, Keith Hackett believes that the goal should not have stood, as there was a foul on Mark McGuinness in the build-up, before the Baggies star got his strike away.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, he said: "Foul on Sheffield United player in build-up to West Brom's second goal."

He also claimed that Arblaster should have been booked for his tackle on Heggebo, saying: "That first challenge near the halfway line should have been penalised and United player yellow carded for a reckless challenge."

What did Grant say about the controversy?

Grant believes that he did not foul the Blades man, and his goal was perfectly legitimate.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, the Baggies forward said: “Not at all, it didn’t even cross my mind to be fair, I don’t know what happened.

“I think he fell over his own legs, I am not sure, I haven’t seen it back, but it nice to get back-to-back goals.”

Albion supporters will not care whether it was a foul or not, it was not given, and the goal counted, and that is all that matters.

You have to play until the whistle blows in the Championship, as there is no video assistant referee in the division, like there is in the Premier League.

That may have been another story entirely, if there was a review system in the second-tier, The Hawthorns crowd would have had a nervous wait, but they did not.

The Baggies, Mason and Grant may be relieved about that, especially after Hackett's verdict on the incident that it should have been disallowed.
