Ruben Amorim miles off it with Toby Collyer comments after what’s happened at West Brom

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim hasn’t held back in his verdict on Toby Collyer at West Brom.

Collyer joined West Brom from Man United in the summer but has truly struggled to make a name for himself at The Hawthorns.

Injury has played a key role in the midfielder’s issues in B71, with Collyer returning to Man United for recovery already this season.

Collyer has suffered injuries with West Brom this campaign that have limited him to just three Championship starts under Ryan Mason.

That has hampered Collyer in the Midlands, making recent comments from Amorim all the more baffling.

Ruben Amorim in strange Toby Collyer verdict at Manchester United

Amorim has previously spoken highly of Collyer, as he suggested he was once ahead of Casemiro in the Old Trafford pecking order.

That was clearly a white lie as the 21-year-old was handed very limited minutes with the Red Devils last campaign.

The Englishman was eventually loaned out to the Black Country, but it is fair to say that injuries have halted any chance of proving his qualities in the Championship.

That has seemingly been lost on the Man United boss, who has opted to take a bizarre swipe at the midfielder in a press conference.

Amorim has made it clear that Collyer isn’t good enough, and he doesn’t really care about his progress at The Hawthorns.

He said: “I’m always talking about the same thing, Toby [Collyer] and this injury is returning here. He played, he’s from the Academy, he played here, went to West Bromwich, he’s not playing. He played for Manchester United.

So sometimes it’s not because he’s from the Academy or whatever. It’s the situation and what’s happened. I don’t know what is going to happen in the future. All these guys played when a lot of people were saying sack the manager!

So you can see that I’m not worried in that time about everybody. I’m just looking at the team and trying to win the next game, and trying to think about the team.

Amorim out of order with Collyer comments at West Brom

To suggest that the Englishman “isn’t playing for West Brom” is wild considering the level of injury the midfielder has faced.

Collyer hasn’t been left out by Mason or exiled from the squad, he has been forced back to Old Trafford to recover from fitness worries.

Amorim knows that and should have more nous to refrain from speaking so negatively towards young players, especially while their injury struggles are so obvious.

West Brom will be hoping these comments can fire up Collyer and allow him to prove himself and showcase his qualities for the Baggies when he’s fully fit.
