Ryan Mason sack update at West Brom shared by BBC reporter – ‘From what I hear…’

Chris Lepkowski has shared an update on Ryan Mason’s future from what he has personally heard from within West Brom.

Mason appeared to be on the brink of being sacked by West Brom a little over a week ago following a terrible run of results.

However, West Brom’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Friday has helped to ease some of the pressure that had been growing.

West Brom fans are still not entirely convinced by Mason, but it does not appear as though he is going anywhere anytime soon.

Ryan Mason’s West Brom job safe for now

West Brom have an eight-day turnaround between the Sheffield United clash at The Hawthorns and Saturday’s trip to Hull City.

The win against the Blades therefore came at a perfect time for Mason, given it would have given the Albion board plenty of time to take action between matches.

However, speaking on The Liquidator podcast, BBC journalist Lepkowski said Mason’s job has never been as under threat as some might believe.

“I don’t detect any appetite from anyone within the club to be making that change,” he said.

“I know there’s been a lot of noise, including from ourselves discussing Mason’s future, but that’s very much confined to social media and supporters.

I don’t think there is any want to make that change at boardroom level, certainly from what I hear.

I don’t think [the Sheffield United win’s] saved him from the axe as such, but it’s saved him from the heat he’s been getting.”

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies is now favourite to be sacked in the Championship ahead of Mason after results over the weekend.

The run that could determine Mason’s future at The Hawthorns

Lepkowski has suggested Mason wasn’t necessarily on the verge of being sacked had Albion lost to Sheffield United.

The unrest from supporters prior to the game was clear to see, however, and Mason was surely living on borrowed time with another loss.

The Baggies have a chance to push on at last, but nothing we have seen this season suggests that will be the case.

West Brom’s festive fixtures

A trip to Hull next weekend is followed by the visit of Bristol City on Boxing Day, followed by a home clash with QPR and trip to Swansea City.

Those games are played over the space of two weeks, with a clash against Leicester City then following swiftly after.

The bottom line is that if West Brom’s consistency does not improve over those games, Mason will surely be gone.
