Ryan Mason hails ‘incredible’ West Brom star who spent four weeks playing through injury
Ryan Mason is still under huge pressure at West Brom and will need his squad more than ever over the next few weeks.
West Brom beat Sheffield United 2-0 last Friday night to save Mason’s skin for a little while longer, but Baggies fans are desperate to see a consistent run of form.
The Midlands outfit currently sit 16th in the Championship after 21 games of the season, but they are still just six points off the playoffs.
Mason’s future will likely come into question again if West Brom are beaten by Hull City on Saturday, though, so it is another crucial game for the 34-year-old.
Ryan Mason loves what he’s seen from Aune Heggebo
Aune Heggebo grabbed a goal and an assist against Sheffield United as he continued his superb run of form for the Baggies.
The Norwegian striker has found the back of the net seven times in his last seven games for West Brom, and has been their shining light so far during a difficult campaign.
In quotes reported by Express & Star, Mason revealed that Heggebo had been playing through a knee injury earlier in the season, such was his determination to help the side.
Mason said: “He did have an injury for four or five weeks and he was playing through, which I think a lot of players wouldn’t have been able to, but he’s got a very strong mentality.”
The Baggies boss also reiterated exactly how he feels about Heggebo’s recent goalscoring run.

He said: “I love him. Obviously, it’s part of bringing him to the club, so it’s pleasing when he scores goals because he’s a striker.
“At the moment he’s in a good place, he’s scoring goals. I think the most important thing is, if you look at the overall (Sheffield United) game, it was incredible.”

Where would Ryan Mason be without Aune Heggebo?
It is no exaggeration to say that Mason would be out of a job by now if it wasn’t for the heroics of Heggebo over recent weeks.
West Brom have won just three of their last 11 games, and the in-form striker has scored in every single one of those victories.
Heggebo grabbed the winner against Oxford United in early November, before scoring a second-half brace as West Brom came from behind to beat Swansea City 3-2.
The 24-year-old then contributed to both goals against Sheffield United, reinforcing his importance to the Baggies.
If Heggebo can continue his red-hot form, then Mason may just have a chance of turning things around at The Hawthorns.
