Man City line up ex-West Brom player as their next manager after Pep Guardiola

Manchester City have identified former West Brom midfielder Enzo Maresa to replace Pep Guardiola.

The Chelsea boss worked under the Spanish head coach before moving to Leicester City and eventually ending up at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca seems to be a big West Brom fan, admitting in the past that he always keeps an eye on the Baggies’ results.

The 45-year-old could now be primed for bigger and better things as the Sky Blues plan for a future without Guardiola.

Manchester City contingency involves ex-West Brom player

Man City are making progress by putting plans in place if Guardiola leaves next summer, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist has revealed that Maresca’s name is prominent among the list of candidates who can succeed the former Barcelona boss in M11.

Maresca was nominated for UEFA’s 2025 Men’s Johan Cruyff Trophy after winning the Club World Cup with Chelsea.

The Italian head coach worked as an assistant at the likes of Sevilla, West Ham and Man City before one successful season as manager in Leicester caught the eyes of Clearlake Capital at Stamford Bridge.

As things stand, it looks like there seems to be some friction between Maresca and the Chelsea hierarchy, and his situation will certainly be one to keep an eye on.

The Blues were considered to be in the Premier League title race with Arsenal, but some disappointing results have left them eight points behind the Gunners.

West Brom have their own managerial issue

Ryan Mason was considered one of the favourites to get sacked in the Championship a few weeks back, but the noise seems to have settled for now.

West Brom won much-needed three points against Sheffield United at The Hawthorns on 12 December with a 2-0 victory.

While the Baggies are 16th in the league table, they’re just six points behind sixth-place Hull City.

Qualifying for the play-offs is still within Mason’s reach, but the next loss will likely reignite calls for a managerial change in B71.
