Ryan Mason could be toast as horrific reveal lays bare major West Brom issue
Ryan Mason eased the growing pressure on his shoulders last weekend, but West Brom are not out of the mire just yet.
Aune Heggebo and Karlan Grant were on target last Friday at The Hawthorns as West Brom beat Sheffield United 2-0.
That win came after back-to-back defeats on the road for the Baggies, including a dreadful performance as West Brom lost 3-2 at Southampton.
Mason’s West Brom job is no longer under immediate threat, but that could all change in the space of 90 minutes this weekend.
West Brom unable to find any sort of consistency
Pretty much every victory this season for Albion has been swiftly followed by a disappointing result in the next game.
Remarkably, despite the season being over four months old, West Brom have not won back-to-back Championship matches since the first two matchdays.
That’s an horrific reveal that shows why Mason is never far from talk surrounding his future, which will be the case should Albion lose at Hull City this weekend.
West Brom have an outside shot at reaching the playoffs, but if that is to happen then they simply need to find some consistency.
Winning one game in every three, say, is not going to cut it. And the bad news for Mason is that only leaders Coventry City (34) have more points than Hull (25) since the start of October.
History on West Brom’s side for Hull City trip
Hull occupy the final playoff spot, so it really is imperative West Brom pull off their biggest win of the season this weekend to close the gap.
The Baggies have lost just one of their past 11 league games against Hull, with that a 2-0 loss on Humberside in March 2023.

Since losing four away league games in a row at Hull between 1974 and 1987, West Brom have lost only four of their past 17 visits.
History is certainly on West Brom’s side, then, but on the basis of what we have seen up to this point under Mason, the chances of making it back-to-back wins are incredibly slim.
