Semi Ajayi reunion off as eight players set to miss Hull City vs West Brom clash

Semi Ajayi will not get the chance to face his former club ahead of this weekend’s encounter between West Brom and Hull City.

Despite a few positive results recently, Ryan Mason is still under pressure at West Brom, and that is unlikely to change unless they can put a string of results together.

So far, the Baggies have only won consecutive league games on one occasion this season, showcasing their struggles when it comes to consistency.

However, after West Brom’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United last time out, they have the chance to rectify that in a game that will see several key players absent.

West Brom could be without three players vs Hull City

Hull have plenty of injury concerns of their own ahead of this weekend’s encounter, with Eliot Matazo, Kasey Palmer and John Lundstram all set to miss out.

Joe Gelhardt, who was once linked with West Brom, is also a doubt, leaving the Tigers with four injury concerns ahead of the clash.

Former Albion defender Ajayi is also set to miss the game, having been called up to the Nigeria squad for the upcoming AFCON.

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic described his absence as a “big headache” for Hull, as quoted by the Express and Star.

As for the Baggies, Jed Wallace and Toby Collyer are both confirmed to be out, with doubts over Alex Mowatt, according to WhoScored.

Mowatt suffered an injury in West Brom’s 3-2 defeat to Southampton at the start of December and has been out of action since.

Hull City’s form could be a problem for West Brom

Only Coventry have picked up more points than Hull City since October, showcasing the form that the Tigers have found over the last few months.

They’ve accumulated 25 points in that period, which is eight more than West Brom have managed under Mason in the same time frame.

Added to that, if Gelhardt is fit to feature, his form in front of goal will be a huge issue for the Baggies, given the fact that he has eight goals since October.

If the Baggies are to get moving in the right direction, they need to show that they are capable of building on results, and that must start away to Hull on Saturday.
