West Brom raid Wolves for ‘unbelievable’ player as plans already outlined

West Brom have raided rivals Wolves for “unbelievable” talent Ethan Smith, with the Baggies’ plans for the youngster already being made clear.

Ryan Mason is eager to add to West Brom’s senior squad, but Albion also have an eye on the future if their latest piece of business is anything to go by.

While West Brom have a number of talented youngsters on their books, too many are failing to make the grade at senior level.

There will be hope within The Hawthorns of that changing soon, though, with an update dropping on a deal for Wolves talent Smith.

Full details as West Brom complete deal for Wolves striker Ethan Smith

West Brom fans love getting one over on Wolves, but bragging rights have largely been with the team from Molineux in recent times.

However, the Baggies appear to have pulled off a transfer coup of sorts by snapping up young striker Smith.

As reported by The Talent Hunter on X – an account that has broken a number of youth transfer stories of late – 15-year-old Smith has penned a contract with West Brom.

Smith has spent the past four years on Wolves’ books, but he has signed a scholarship deal with West Brom.

It is described by the respectable account as “an unbelievable addition” to Albion’s academy.

And the Baggies already have a plan in place for the teenage attacker, as he is expected to join up with the Under-16s and work his way up to the Under-18s.

Time for Ryan Mason to bring down average age of West Brom squad

While there is clearly going to be some time before Smith has any sort of chance of making an impact at first-team level for Albion, there are other talents breaking through that fans are getting excited about.

Mason’s full focus is on saving his West Brom job right now, which is understandable, but that is not to say he cannot be bringing through some younger talents.

What we know so far:

Prior to this weekend’s fixtures, West Brom’s average squad age was 25.6, which is the 14th highest in the division.

This works both ways, of course, as Mason cannot bring in players who are not good enough.

The hope is that the recruitment done now, such as Smith joining for Wolves, pays off years from now.
