Andrew Nestor is West Brom’s very own Ebenezer Scrooge as new transfer update emerges
West Brom fans may have hoped Christmas provided a welcome distraction from their club’s form.
Ryan Mason is under huge pressure at West Brom, as results have not been good enough lately, with just two wins in seven matches.
Many supporters at The Hawthorns were hoping that Bilkul Football would back Mason to turn it around in the January transfer window.
However, an update from sporting director Andrew Nestor may well ruin any celebrations over the festive period, as he is their own Ebenezer Scrooge.

What did Nestor say about West Brom transfer plans?
West Brom have struggled with Profit and Sustainability concerns since the takeover, as a result of Guochuan Lai’s disastrous reign.
It appears that they are not out of the woods yet, with Nestor confirming that the PSR troubles will affect their ability to spend when the market reopens.
He claimed that while Albion will attempt to find value, they face strict margins when it comes to player trading.
Speaking via the club’s official website on 23 December, he said: “Unfortunately, this does mean our trading in January 2026 will again face strict P&S limitations as it is still part of the 2025/26 fiscal year.
“However, like in the three previous windows we will continue to work hard to examine opportunities that exist within the market, despite navigating razor-thin P&S margins.”
Scrooge famously hated Christmas and was reluctant to spend money, and Nestor has been put in a predicament where he resembles the character.
Why West Brom fans have to grit and bear it
Shilen Patel and Co inherited a terrible situation when they came into the West Midlands club, and it has taken time to sort it out.
Supporters must allow them time to sort out the mess left behind by Lai, and judging by Nestor’s statement, they are doing so.
The Baggies are expected to “strong position” to comply with the regulations by the 2026/27 campaign, which suggests that significant progress has been made.
That should allow Bilkul Football to spend more, and put the squad in a place where they are competitive and can fight for promotion.
The road to redemption is long, but the ownership are doing it the right way, and hopefully, their changes will eventually work out and take Albion back to where it belongs.
So while Nestor may seem like the grumpy Charles Dickens character right now, he is only doing what is right for the Black Country club in the long term.
