Chris Mepham returns as Ryan Mason forced into two changes – West Brom predicted XI vs Bristol City

Ryan Mason could bring Chris Mepham back into the starting line-up when West Brom host Bristol City on Friday.

Mason needs West Brom to beat the Robins, as his job is under severe pressure at The Hawthorns after a run of just two wins in seven matches.

Krystian Bielik left the pitch with injury in West Brom’s defeat to Hull, just before the half-time mark, so his involvement is in doubt.

Therefore, Mason may be forced to recall Mepham, as the Baggies attempt to record a statement win over the playoff contenders.

What other changes could Mason make for West Brom vs Bristol City?

Joe Wildsmith has been the West Brom manager’s pick between the sticks lately, with Joe Griffiths dropping out of the side, and he is predicted to stay in the team.

Alfie Gilchrist was sent off against Hull, so George Campbell is expected to maintain his place on the right side of defence, with Callum Styles on the opposite flank.

Nat Phillips is predicted to keep his spot, with Mepham potentially returning alongside the former Liverpool star for the clash against Gerhard Struber’s side.

Jayson Molumby is expected to replace Charlie Taylor, in the only other change from the defeat to the Tigers last time out, with Ousmane Diakite alongside him in the engine room.

Mikey Johnson is predicted to remain on the right flank, with Karlan Grant on the opposite side, and Isaac Price through the middle.

Aune Heggebo is expected to start upfront; he had scored seven goals in seven matches before blanking against Hull, so Mason will rely on his goals.

Does Mason need to start trusting his squad?

Mason seems to be too loyal to certain players, refusing to drop them from the starting line-up, even with the poor form his side have been in.

He does not seem to trust his backup options, which means that out-of-form players remain in the team, which harms Albion on the pitch.

Tammer Bany or Josh Maja are options that could replace Price, but the beleaguered manager has stuck with the Northern Irishman despite his recent dip in form.

Price has not scored or assisted in his last seven matches, but he remains in the side rather than Mason experimenting with somebody else.

He needs to start trusting the squad, or enter the transfer market when it reopens in January, otherwise his first managerial stint may be finished very shortly.
