Morgan Rogers is huge fan of manager who’s favourite for West Brom job amid Ryan Mason sack latest

Ryan Mason’s future at West Brom continues to remain uncertain.

Mason is under huge pressure to get the Baggies back in the Premier League, but a poor run of results has left them in 16th place, eight points adrift of the playoffs.

The Baggies have lost their last eight consecutive away matches, and there seems to be no signs of positive change under Mason.

The likes of Alex Neil and Slaven Bilic have been linked with the role, and Mason’s sacking could happen after any loss at this rate.

However, former Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is the clear favourite, and in-form Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has nothing but admiration for his former manager.

Morgan Rogers praises Michael Carrick’s impact on his career

Rogers has become one of the Premier League’s top players over the last two seasons, having joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024.

In November 2024, the 23-year-old spoke out about what it was like to work under Carrick at Middlesbrough.

He said: “He’s a very good manager, but an even better person. He is just like the way he played, that chilled-out character, and he was so good with me and helped me, help me get through difficult moments in that time I was with him.”

Rogers worked under Carrick for seven months, scoring seven goals and registering eight assists in 33 appearances before making his move to B6.

As for his chances at the West Brom job, Carrick leads the way with the bookmakers at 3/1 odds, while Carlos Corberan is the second-favourite at 9/2.

West Brom’s next manager odds

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Russell Martin, and Gary O’Neil are also in the running, and although Carrick is certainly the candidate with the most potential, he also has the least experience.

Michael Carrick is not what West Brom need right now

Despite Mason still having the support of those at West Brom, if the poor results continue, he looks destined for the sack.

There are similarities between both Mason and Carrick, with both head coaches only managing one club at this level.

The ex-Man United player did a fine job at Middlesbrough, but given the squad he had, it was seen as a failure that he couldn’t achieve promotion to the Premier League in nearly three years at the club.

Carrick and Mason’s managerial records

The Hawthorns has lacked life and inspiration during Mason’s reign, and Carrick’s impressive numbers are a positive sign of his ability, although the Baggies need an experienced figure at the helm.

However, West Brom would surely be better off appointing a manager who could galvanise the squad instantly and make an unlikely push for the playoffs in the second half of the season.
