West Brom January transfer window guide: Who Ryan Mason could sign, who could be sold and deadline day explained

Ryan Mason will already be dreaming of the January transfer window at West Brom.

Mason’s reign at West Brom has turned sour after a positive start, with the Baggies crumbling, leaving them 16th in the Championship table.

The ex-Tottenham coach is in desperate need of fresh impetus if he is to have any chance of turning the campaign around.

Shilen Patel needs to back the 34-year-old in the market to bring in the required quality, which his side is lacking right now.

When the January transfer window opens and closes

New additions at The Hawthorns can start rolling through the door from 1 January, as that is when the transfer window officially opens.

It closes at 19:00 GMT on 2 February, because the usual closing date of 31 January falls on a weekend, so clubs will have a little bit of extra time to get last-minute deals done.

Supporters will hope that any business is not left until the deadline, so that they can be implemented into the squad as soon as possible.

West Brom’s January transfer targets

Albion need additions in several areas when the market reopens, that is abundantly clear after the first-half of the season.

However, it may be a difficult window after Andrew Nestor opened up on West Brom’s PSR situation, claiming that they are facing fine margins once again.

One area that they are believed to be targeting is midfield, with Rangers youngster Bailey Rice a potential addition for West Brom, with a pre-contract agreement potentially on the cards.

The 19-year-old has refused a new deal at Ibrox, but the Baggies face competition from the likes of Aston Villa and Cardiff City for his services.

Former Gers maestro Glen Kamara is another name that has been touted with a move to B71, and Dan Neil is another potential target.

The Throstles are reportedly lining up a swoop for the Sunderland midfielder, who has hardly featured in the Premier League.

Amario Cozier-Duberry is a potential attacking addition for West Brom, if they can persuade Brighton to terminate his loan with Bolton Wanderers and send him to Mason’s side instead.

Who Ryan Mason could sell before deadline day

Mason could also make some tough decisions when it comes to exits.

Josh Maja has been linked with a West Brom departure, with Bristol City reportedly monitoring the striker, who has been unable to displace Aune Heggebo.

Karlan Grant, Daryl Dike, Jed Wallace, and Joe Wildsmith are out of contract in the summer and can all seek pre-contract agreements with foreign teams.

Ousmane Diakite is another whose deal ends at the end of the campaign, but the club have an option to extend his contract, so it is unlikely that he will leave in January.
