Tony Mowbray among favourites for managerial return after shock Championship sack
Former West Brom boss Tony Mowbray could return to the Championship before 2026.
After West Brom’s defeat at home to Bristol City, all of the focus is on their own managerial situation ahead of the new year.
Ryan Mason is under immense pressure at The Hawthorns as a result of the Baggies’ inconsistent form over the campaign, with a huge few days ahead when it comes to deciding his future.
However, elsewhere in the Championship, there have already been several changes in the dugout, and one could see the return of Mowbray.

Mowbray third favourite behind John Terry and Michael Beale for Championship job
Mowbray did a fairly solid job at West Brom, but it was quite evident that he wasn’t going to be the man to take the Baggies back to the Premier League, though that is certainly the case with Mason.
However, he was capable of finding some consistency in his squad, which is exactly what Oxford United are in need of after they sacked Gary Rowett, much to the shock of everyone.
Oxford are on level points with Portsmouth, who occupy the final relegation spot, and Mowbray is the third favourite to take over there.
Via some of the biggest bookmakers, Mowbray is priced at 3/1 to return to Championship management, with John Terry and Michael Beale both at 2/1.

If Mowbray were to get the job, he could return to face his former Albion side on 28 February, when Oxford play host to West Brom.
What did Mowbray say prior to West Brom exit?
The veteran manager didn’t do everything right throughout his time at The Hawthorns, but a lot of the issues stemmed from those above him.
Recruitment was poor, decisions off the pitch were poor, and the general feel of the club needed a huge boost.
In his final press conference as Baggies boss back in April, Mowbray highlighted the main issues, though he will be disappointed to see that the right changes still haven’t been made at West Brom.
“I think the summer is huge for this club with the changes that will be coming. Recruitment has to be right. You have to sign players with personality and character and a hunger to get to the top,” he said.
“I just feel we need to sign some personality, character, and confidence who will play the way I believe West Bromwich Albion will play.“
