West Brom fans react as manager sack announced

West Brom fans are growing in their numbers against Ryan Mason.

Mason is under intense pressure to get the Baggies back into the Premier League, and their positive start to the season has been completely derailed.

Following West Brom’s 2-1 loss to Bristol City on Friday, they sit 16th in the Championship table and have been shambolic on the road.

Mason has lost eight away games in a row, and there seems to be no way back from the former Tottenham man at The Hawthorns.

Unfortunately for West Brom supporters, they’ll have to wait slightly longer for Mason to be sacked, although former manager Darren Moore hasn’t been as lucky.

West Brom fans would prefer Darren Moore to Ryan Mason

Moore led West Brom to the Championship playoffs in 2018-19, where they were knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual winners Aston Villa.

Since then, he has had managerial spells at Doncaster, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield, and, most recently, Port Vale, where he has just been sacked.

The Valiants currently sit rock bottom in League One, having lost 12 of their 21 games and sitting 10 points away from safety.

Port Vale released a statement to confirm their decision to terminate his contract, and West Brom supporters were quick to react to the breaking news.

Some fans asked for Moore to come back as frustration with Mason continues to grow in B71.

Although West Brom are linked with several managers, a return to The Hawthorns seems completely out of the question for Moore.

But, in an alternate universe, how would he fare for the Baggies in 2026?

How would Darren Moore do at West Brom in 2026?

The 51-year-old is West Brom through and through, having coached the youth teams before stepping up as the caretaker manager in April 2018.

He got an immediate reaction out of his players, and although the Baggies still suffered Premier League relegation, he won the Manager of the Month award and picked up 11 points from six games.

In the Championship, he oversaw an impressive campaign that saw West Brom lose out to Villa on penalties in the play-offs, before the Baggies parted ways with him.

In the incredibly unlikely event he was hired to replace Mason, there is no doubt that he could galvanise the players, and more importantly, the fans, to get behind Shilen Patel’s project.

Of course, it can’t be ignored that he has just failed at a job for a League One side, and he doesn’t have the acumen to coach in the Championship nowadays.

Although he probably wouldn’t be successful, appointing Moore on a caretaker basis for the rest of the season isn’t the worst idea that has been floated around B71 in the last few months.
