QPR have no leg to stand on after West Brom controversy – Ex-PGMOL chief
Keith Hackett believes that QPR’s uproar was misjudged in their defeat to West Brom.
West Brom ended 2025 with a 2-1 win against QPR, and while the performance was still questionable, the three points may have just bought some extra time for Ryan Mason.
George Campbell and Nat Phillips provided the goods for Albion, both from crosses, with Ousmane Diakite’s own goal giving the visitors hope, despite the fact that they failed to register a shot on target throughout the game.
However, despite their own lacklustre display, QPR felt hard done by for the Baggies’ opening goal, with claims that it should have been disallowed.

West Brom goal right to stand after footage shared
Callum Styles was superb for West Brom on the night, and it was his set-piece deliveries that caused a lot of issues in the early stages of the game.
After a few instances of ropey defending, QPR were finally punished when Campbell rose highest to head the ball beyond Ben Hamer, though it wasn’t without complaints.
QPR wanted a foul for the way the USMNT international got above his defender, though Hackett believes the claims were weak.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, he said: “When you view this goal, it is evident that the West Brom player has gained elevation to head the ball in a fair manner.
“The QPR defender moves sideways, and Campbell had not used his hand/arm to gain elevation. Good goal.“
What comes next for Mason after West Brom win?
West Brom fans wanted Mason sacked prior to the clash, and despite the win, those feelings haven’t really changed all that much.
If Mason is win back even some of the trust from the Albion supporters, these kinds of results need to be consistent, and a failure to do so will bring the pressure right back.
However, it is something to build on, though the same thing has been said on countless occasions already this season after West Brom have managed to pick up three points.
Consistency is going to be a key decider when it comes to his future, and anything less than a win against Swansea on New Year’s Day will demonstrate that he is incapable of being the man to deliver that.
