West Brom play a blinder amid ‘substantial’ Reyes Cleary transfer update

West Brom could be set to profit as Reyes Cleary is already linked with a move away from Barnsley.

Barnsley signed Cleary from West Brom in the summer, bringing an end to plenty of speculation regarding the 21-year-old’s future at the time.

Cleary was clearly a popular figure at West Brom, with a number of his then-colleagues sending messages on social media upon his exit being announced.

The former England Under-19s international is now back in the transfer gossip columns and may be about to be on the move again.

Blackburn Rovers bid for Reyes Cleary, West Brom could profit

Cleary has impressed for Barnsley since arriving from West Brom, where he failed to live up to his early reputation.

With five goals and six assists in 16 League One appearances this season, Cleary‘s form is not going unnoticed.

Indeed, as per Alan Nixon via his personal Patreon page on Wednesday, West Brom‘s fellow Championship club Blackburn have tabled a bid for Cleary.

That offer is described as “substantial” six-figure offer, but it has already been turned down by Barnsley.

The South Yorkshire side are now said to be waiting for an improved offer from Blackburn, or a rival offer from elsewhere in the January transfer window.

West Brom chiefs will be paying particular attention as a sell-on clause was inserted in Cleary’s contract when he joined Barnsley.

While it is not known how much of any sale fee Albion will recieve should Cleary be on the move, it was good foresight from the Black Country club to negotiate such a clause.

Why West Brom fans can have no complaints over Cleary

Cleary’s impressive form for Barnsley, both in terms of scoring goals himself and setting them up for others, has had West Brom supporters clamouring for a return.

Many questioned whether his exit from The Hawthorns six months ago was the right choice, given he could now be at a fellow club chasing Premier League promotion.

The truth is, however, the move came at the right time for both the player and the club. Cleary was unable to make an impression for Albion’s first team and a move to the third tier made sense.

The good news is that there was a sell-on clause negotiated as part of the agreement that saw out-of-contract Cleary move to Oakwell.

If nothing else, the funds brought in should Cleary swap clubs can be invested back into West Brom’s squad in January.
