BBC reporter shares message Ryan Mason has for all West Brom fans

Ryan Mason has acknowledged West Brom’s lack of form in a new message to supporters.

West Brom suffered a 1-0 defeat to Swansea last time out, piling even more pressure on Mason at The Hawthorns.

It was the Baggies’ ninth consecutive away defeat, showcasing the lack of consistency they have had in their performances so far this season.

Fans have grown more and more frustrated at that, and Mason has admitted that he feels the pain from that just as much as anyone else.

Ryan Mason understands why West Brom fans are unhappy

The truth of the matter is that West Brom look lightyears away from a side capable of challening from promotion, even if the table may suggest otherwise.

Albion sit 19th in the Championship table after 25 games, but are also only nine points behind Preston, who occupy the final play-off position.

However, the issue is that it has always been one step forward and two steps back for West Brom under Mason, who has accepted that he can no longer ask for fans to stick with the process.

Via BBC Radio WM Sport, he said: “I can’t speak to the fans, I’m certainly not going to ask the fans for patience. Certainly not going to ask them for anything.

“They come, and they support the team, and at the minute, theyre unhappy, and rightly so. We’ve lost too many games. I’m unhappy. It hurts me.”

Are West Brom in a relegation battle?

While it’s important to note that West Brom are just nine points from the top six, it’s even more important to note that they are also just seven points clear of the bottom three.

Norwich City occupy the last relegation spot at the moment on 24 points, having won three games fewer than Albion.

The Baggies’ return so far this season has seen them average 1.24 points per game, which, when totalled over the full 46 games, would see them finish on 57 points.

It’s a tally that would be unlikely to see them relegated, but that is also assuming they don’t drop off further between now and the end of the campaign, which is certainly not guaranteed.

Last season, 49 points would have kept you in the Championship, and to reach that total, West Brom would need to average 1.14 points per game for the rest of the season.

However, the fact that this is even worth noting showcases the turmoil at The Hawthorns right now.
