Shilen Patel flies in as favourite emerges to replace Ryan Mason as next West Brom manager
Ryan Mason is skating on the thinnest of ice as West Brom manager, with Shilen Patel surely ready to now pull the trigger.
West Brom lost 1-0 to Swansea City last time out, in what is Albion’s third defeat from their last four Championship games.
Mason has sympathised with West Brom fans, acknowledging that the team’s performances and results aren’t good enough and that he’s hurt by the current situation.
West Brom travel to Leicester City on Monday night, in what could prove to be a watershed evening at the King Power Stadium.
Shilen Patel set to apply even more pressure on Ryan Mason
Mason is now facing the West Brom sack, in what has been a tough welcome to the world of football management for the first-time head coach.
Michael Carrick is the favourite to take over at West Brom should owner and chairman Shilen Patel swing the axe on Mason, and the gravity of the situation isn’t lost on the American businessman.
As reported by westbrom.fc via X on Saturday, it’s their understanding that Patel is likely to be in attendance for Monday’s meeting with Leicester after jetting in from the US.
Therefore, this will naturally increase the pressure on Mason and his side to get a result against the Foxes, as another defeat could prove fatal for him, especially if it’s witnessed before Patel’s very own eyes.
West Brom’s recent head-to-head record vs Leicester
Baggies supporters will be searching for any glimmer of hope for three points that they can find.
So, do the history books provide that regarding their upcoming game against Leicester? Unfortunately for those of a West Brom persuasion, they don’t.
- West Brom have lost 10 of their 13 away games this season
- Leicester have won just one of their last four in the Championship
- The Foxes have won five, drawn four and lost three at the King Power this season
West Brom haven’t beaten Leicester in any of their last nine meetings in all competitions, with their last victory against them coming all the way back in November 2016, when goals from Matty Phillips and James Morrison secured a 2-1 away win in the Premier League.
Leicester have won five of the last six meetings, but the spoils were shared last time out, with the two side contesting a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns in September.
