Daryl Dike ‘problems’ emerge ahead of possible West Brom exit in January

Daryl Dike’s future at West Brom doesn’t look promising under Ryan Mason.

West Brom fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Swansea on Thursday, equalling a club record of nine consecutive losses on the road.

Dike came on for three minutes at the end of the match in South Wales, but was unable to make an impact as he searches for his first goal of the season.

Mason doesn’t value Dike as a West Brom player who can be a part of his plans, but whether he leaves the Baggies or not depends on his fitness.

Blackburn fans have even been left wondering whether Valerien Ismael would want to reunite with Dike, after their great spell at Barnsley.

Daryl Dike’s move to Blackburn thrown into question due to fitness issues

Dike’s injury record is woeful, and he suffered a thigh injury during pre-season, meaning he missed the start of the campaign.

Reporting on his Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon responded to Blackburn fans who questioned whether Dike could be moving to Blackburn.

One supporter said: “Can see us going for Dike, Ismael liked him at Barnsley, although he’s been a big injury risk at West Brom.”

Nixon replied: “Problems with his fitness,” putting any move in jeopardy already.

Dike’s West Brom stats

At Barnsley in the 2021-22 campaign, he was excellent under Blackburn’s current manager, Ismael, scoring nine goals in 22 matches during his loan spell.

However, since the start of the 2023-24 campaign, he has only made 23 appearances and has failed to start a match under Mason this season.

How will Dike be remembered by West Brom fans?

It’s such a shame that Dike has struggled with severe injuries, as he’s clearly a talented player.

He has required surgery on his Achilles tendon twice, while two separate thigh injuries have kept him out for an additional 256 days.

Although he appears to be fit at this moment in time, he has hardly played any minutes of football in the last calendar year.

West Brom supporters certainly won’t fault him for his issues, and he has done everything possible to be available.

Since his move from Orlando at the start of 2022, it hasn’t panned out for him, but when he does leave, he’ll be remembered fondly by fans who believe he still has a part to play in the team.

Although that probably won’t be in January, his exit does feel certain as long as Mason is in charge.
