Ex-West Brom player set for Manchester United job after Ruben Amorim sack news

West Brom fans will soon see a familiar face in the dugout at Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim doesn’t have the best reputation at West Brom as supporters have been left unhappy with the Red Devils’ head coach in recent months.

The Portuguese boss did himself no favours at The Hawthorns when Amorim took aim at West Brom loanee Toby Collyer for little to no reason.

Collyer has since returned to Man United, but won’t be managed by the 40-year-old after he was sacked at Old Trafford on Monday.

Amorim has lost his job and is now set to be replaced by a Baggies favourite, with a successor already named by the 20-time Premier League champions.

Albion had a link to the Red Devils after signing Collyer on loan in the summer to link up with Ryan Mason’s squad.

The young midfielder has failed to make an impact in B71 due to injury, but that hasn’t stopped supporters in the Black Country keeping an eye on United.

Many will be surprised to learn that Amorim has been let go at Old Trafford after 14 months, due to a breakdown in relations with the hierarchy.

That has seen the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss exit less than 24 hours after Man United could only manage a 1-1 draw away to Leeds United.

It now appears that the West Brom link will continue at the Stretford End with Darren Fletcher set to take over as interim head coach.

West Brom favourite Darren Fletcher to manage Manchester United

The ex-Scotland international is well-known for his Man United days, but still went on to have a positive spell at The Hawthorns.

Fletcher joined the Baggies in 2015 and made 97 appearances before departing for Stoke City two years later.

The 41-year-old is now preparing for a spot on the touchline at Old Trafford after being named as the interim head coach to replace Amorim.

The Scot will take charge as United face off against Burnley in the Premier League, something which is bound to go down well at The Hawthorns.
