Tony Brown slams one West Brom player as Leicester City carve open the Baggies

West Brom legend Tony Brown was disappointed as Josh Griffiths was beaten easily by Leicester City on Monday.

Ryan Mason’s team travelled to the King Power Stadium on 5 January, with Jordan Ayew opening the scoring in the 18th minute.

The English manager is under immense pressure with the Baggies 18th in the table before facing Marti Cifuentes’ team.

Mason is being tipped for the sack at The Hawthorns, and his goalkeeper may have let him down in East Midlands.

Josh Griffiths not brave enough in Leicester City vs West Brom

Brown wanted to see more heart from Griffiths as Ayew found the back of the net in the first half.

Jordan James was the architect of the goal, with an impressive build-up from the Foxes before beating the Albion’s shot-stopper.

However, Griffiths may have been hesitant to close down the Ghana international, who subsequently slotted past him.

Speaking on BBC Radio WM on 5 January, Brown said, “It was really good build-up play from Leicester, but the keeper, Griffiths, should have been brave and dived at the feet of Ayew instead of pausing. That was too easy.”

Griffiths seems to have lost Mason’s trust, with the Leicester game being his first start since the end of November, and the shot-stopper didn’t necessarily make a case for himself in that moment.

Joe Wildsmith hasn’t really been able to cement his place in the team in recent weeks, giving the Tottenham assistant head coach a lot to think about.

Ryan Mason has obvious change to make at the break

Aune Heggebo has been a big part of Mason’s plans, with the Norway international putting in some impressive performances of late.

However, the Leicester defence has isolated the West Brom striker, and it may be an opportunity for Josh Maja to make an impact off the bench.

The Nigeria international hasn’t been able to hit the ground running since his injury, but he could potentially be better suited to face Caleb Okoli and Ben Nelson.

Karlan Grant has brought the Baggies back into the game, and Mason must be proactive and bold with his substitutions at the King Power Stadium.
