West Brom-linked manager fancied by Andrew Nestor on verge of appointment

Ryan Mason was appointed as West Brom manager by club president Andrew Nestor back in June.

Nestor, who was the sporting director at the time, was undoubtedly taking a chance on the 34-year-old as he had very little managerial experience previously.

Mason has had a dismal start to life at West Brom and is already on the verge of the sack after just seven months in charge.

It all could’ve been so different for Baggies fans, though, after a deal to bring in a different manager fell through at the beginning of 2025.

Raphael Wicky closes in on new job

After the departure of Carlos Corberan last season, West Brom had looked all set to appoint Raphael Wicky as their new manager.

However, the move broke down after Wicky’s preferred backroom staff failed to obtain a visa.

West Brom brought in Tony Mowbray instead, but the 62-year-old lasted just three months at The Hawthorns before being dismissed.

Now, according to journalist Tom Bogert, Wicky is finalising a deal to join Sporting Kansas City ahead of the new MLS season.

The 48-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Young Boys in March 2024, following a poor run of results.

Who could replace Ryan Mason?

West Brom currently sit 18th in the Championship, and have lost nine consecutive games away from home.

The Baggies are just seven points clear of the relegation zone, and it feels like Mason’s time at The Hawthorns is quickly coming to an end.

If the former Tottenham man does depart in the coming weeks, then the West Midlands side will be forced to undergo their third managerial recruitment process in less than a year.

Michael Carrick is the current favourite to take over at West Brom if Mason is dismissed, following his Middlesbrough exit last June.

Carrick had a three-year spell at the Riverside, guiding Boro to a play-off place during his first campaign in charge, before they were beaten by Coventry in the semi-final.

In his final two seasons at Middlesbrough, the former Manchester United man could only manage an eighth and a 10th-place finish.
